About

Strings Attached is a full-service luthiery offering expert repair on all stringed instruments. To name a few: electric and acoustic guitars and basses, banjos, mandolins, autoharps, harps, hammered dulcimers, charangos, and the entire viol family of instruments.

Strings Attached is owned and operated by Jeff Merck, who has a great passion for stringed instruments and has enjoyed playing and working on them most of his life.  Jeff is a certified Luthier, having studied and trained at Luthier’s International School of Guitar Building and Repair.   In September of 2003, Strings Attached Luthiery was opened for business on Main Street in Columbia, South Carolina.  Jeff began his business largely on referrals from other repair shops, friends, and several local music stores.
